The Series
Auto de Fé was conceived as a five-episode drama, twelve minutes each, built around guilt and duality. For the Cinema bachelor’s at Universidade Lusófona, only the pilot was produced. Samuel, a 32-year-old priest, tries to balance his religious vocation with a traumatic accident from the illegal fights he secretly takes part in. After killing an opponent, his internal conflict deepens when he discovers the victim is the son of D. Teresa, a local parishioner. As his guilt grows, Samuel starts to lose control, and his priestly life unravels. Unstable and pulled by his other side, he is drawn back into the fighting world by his childhood friend Fernando. While Samuel gives the victim’s funeral mass, D. Teresa mourns her son — and Samuel eventually confesses the crime he committed.
